Someone started talking to me on Soulseek about an obscure remix of Ladytron I'm sharing (and I don't even listen to it !! it's crap!)
[kingofsnake] well I hope this mix isn't gonna be a heap of spam ;)
[digiki] ah ah :=)
[kingofsnake] just a little play on words. I really dont know anything about Slam.
[digiki] really ? a uk band with a taste for heavy beats and bassline
[kingofsnake] like a british Timo Maas?
[digiki] hum no... more beats, a mix of house / hiphop beats
[kingofsnake] but he has a little more funky bass I guess or whatever you want to call it. btw I'm exhausting my techno knowlege. I only like so much, because most of it IS spam.
[digiki] :))
[kingofsnake] Even Maas gets boring after a while, but he has plenty of gems. He certainly gave some influence to Apoptygma Berzerks[kingofsnake] 'ok amp let me out' is definetly a maas influenced track
what's the fuck am I supposed to answer here ??!! I mean, I don"t give a fuck about Timo Maas or Slam !!
ok, let's try:
[digiki] yeah sure
[kingofsnake] Do you know what I'm talking about?
ahh fuck !!
ok let's check that bloody cd...
[digiki] yeah you're talking about that track on harmonizer right?
[kingofsnake] yeah the latest one
[digiki] yeah
[kingofsnake] it's a letdown. only good for the Maas and Erasure wanna-be tracks. Then there's the few Apop tracks inbetween that get lost.
[digiki] hum..right
what's next?
"listen man, there are far more interesting things to listen to right now, you know, music is not all about 'house' or 'club' wake up"?
no.... things get worse:
[kingofsnake] d'oh! sorry...I take it you're a fan.
!!!!!! whatsthefuck??! a fan???
[digiki] no no, not really!
[kingofsnake] oh okay. I thought I offended you're interest. I like them too, but I think they didnt' do this well this time around. Speaking of Ladytron, they did a remix for 'until the end of the world.'
...
[digiki] ah really ? I mean, I'm absolutely not in that kind of sounds right now...
hope he would understand... he didn't.
[kingofsnake] Sorry, you're my first Soulseek person to blab too, so I'm gonna indulge. What are you into?
what am I into? good question.
mowaxbapemajorforce?
or datpolitics meets berlin gltich meets parisian avant garde ?
or japanese80s sounds+telex+can+faust+steve reich?
or maybe... japanese cute pop and radiohead and jake thackray?
or hip hop AND beach boys ?
or... plain silence ?
or recontextualisation ?
or brazilian music ?
I dont know. it's too long to explain anywyay.
let's quit this thing now.
[digiki] far more interesting stuff :) I used to dj club sounds but I'm more into.. let's say, "electronica"
let's be... generic.
[kingofsnake] the bands (or most of them) that got that label were unfortunate, because they're shunned as a fad. Damn those marketing geniuses.
[digiki] i really dont care about music labels or marketing :)
which is not true - I'm a man of marketing in a way. And I have ideas about selling products.
[kingofsnake] now playing: Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
[digiki] ah i like that...quite long, but interesting
come on: this BoC was far tooo long and boring in the end. But I like some songs.
[kingofsnake] it was just pretty striking to my jaded ears when I took a chance the other day in the used bin.
[kingofsnake] in the light of being post squarepusher, aphex twin, autechre, etc.
then buy the first LP !! far more interesting ! Music has the right to children !
[kingofsnake] I could listen to this and pop in a new Coil disc late at night
[digiki] ah Coil :) yeah why not
why not after all ? he could pop in whatever he wants ! :)
(remember how everything started with Ladytron and Slam ? :))
[kingofsnake] it was humorous when they just came out and called a few of their albums 'musick to play in the dark.' its like they knew.
come on, they knew :)))
and what about the title of my Japan tour cd hum ?
kitchen ?
club mistake ?
winning friends to influence people ? (thanks Nick for this one)
tape catastrophe ?
robots are our friends ?
like I know !
[digiki] they are playing in the dark on most of their tracks, yes. this IS darkness, man :)
come on. Coil !! whatsthefuck am I doing here !! I'm tired !!
[kingofsnake] well they did remix 'panic' admittadly in the dark
[digiki] you can do good music in the dark :))
this is enough. I got to s.l.e.e.p.
and check the 12' white label Diamond Tracks sent me today (!!) life is full of surprises.

Things are changing. I can feel that. I've just turned 23 last Monday, and I realized that I've tried many things in the past years. I started doing compilations of 'good' music when I was 16. I first went to Japan when I was 19, to discover a country that feels like a 'second home'. I was DJing with Fantastic Plastic Machine and Shoichi Kajino when I was 20, which was great fun (they are very nice people, I love them), but very disappointing on a technique level. I'm not a good DJ and I know it, because I'm not interested in mixing house music non stop for 2 hours. I want to surprise people, that's my job. Last year, my 'antimix' album 'I don't like mixing' was my point of view on DJing, and strangely it was my best (limited) success. I remixed one of my 'idol' (not really an idol, let's say he's someone that matters to me) Momus in 2002, and we became friends. Now what's next ? I'm touring Japan. I start to enjoy my own work on music. I still can't say I'm a 'musician' which is a good thing. I have many, many ideas to try. Many people to meet. My dream list of 'people to meet and talk with' is still full. And I keep trying to surprise people.

lots of news soon (so check back the news page in the coming weeks).
The Eric Ker debut album (is it an album? an EP ? a mini album ? ok let's say: mini album) is finished now, the design is done, and everything is ready. Can't wait to put some samples online, and hear what you got to say. It's very different from my Digiki sound, and I know that some people prefer that side of Castellane. Eric asked me to do a remix for this release, and the result is completely different from the original track, and it gots a great DAT Politics vibe. I was suprised that Eric ask me for a remix to be included on the final album, and I was even more pleased when he told me he absolutely loves this remix ! so: thank you Eric, YOU did a great job with the original material in the first place !
On the Digiki front, I am working on some new tracks for the july Japan tour (all the details very very soon). I am working on a Digiki Japan Tour cd with remixes, edits, new tracks etc to be sold at the events.
More news soon, more surprises, more more more soon soon soon.
