sick+crazy=?

it seems I can't stop working.
spend most of the day mixing the 19 versions of my Wesley Willis track down to 4 versions, and in the end, 1 version ! 61 different elements, almost 10 minutes long. Whatever. It still sucks ! :)

I've done 18 (or is it 19?) different versions of my Wesley Willis track....and I still think it's crap :(

My best work so far this year is the remix I've done for Eric, and some sounds for Toog.

I can't see where I am going with my so-called 'music' at the moment.

I'm going crazy.

Point+click

misc news from Fri September 19th:

- The new Air album is set for release in January 2004 and is produced by...Nigel Godrich!!!!!!! AMAZING. I can't wait for it. I heard the first single from the album, Another day(or something like that) performed live yesterday on French TV, and it's perfect. Another track is on Sofia Coppola's new movie Lost in translation, a very cool soundtrack also featuring new tracks by...Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine fame !!!

- Toog new album is set for completion later this month / early october, and yes, I'm late on the original schedule ;) It sounds like... you'll see. It's quite different from what I've done before, and I'm excited about that.

- The Kitchen remix project is still on tracks, but the deadline for remix contribution is extented until early 2004. The project sounds interesting, with many unexpected styles and guests. I want to release it on a "real" label (with Kitchen as well) around may 2004. If you are interested in releasing it, feel free to contact me.

- I have to update the News page soon, but you heard it first: I have recorded a new track (first one since Kitchen!!!) for a forthcoming Wesley Willis tribute album, to be released (I think) on Tsunami Addiction label in late 2003. The track still needs some mixing, but it will be completed soon.

- I have no plans to record any new material this year, I have some remixes to do soon, but that's all. Despite my usual "I won't do that anymore" statement, I've already started working on a new CD, and it's going to be... very different from before. It's too early to think of a completion date, but late 2004 is a realistic date, if I ever manage to finish it. I have tons of work to do on Toog album before, maybe some live dates, and new projects to push for Castellane before.

this morning Steve Jobs keynote in Paris was funky with the announcement of new Powerbooks... but the coolest part was the intro of the show, with a beautiful Beatles cover by the late Johnny Cash...

Kitchenmix: Pop vs. Exp

I'm working on the idea of the remix album of "Kitchen". I think 'Kitchen: remixed' (working title of course) has to expend what Digiki has always been about, which is "experimental pop", pop music with unexpected evolutions, radical minimalism with pop music elements, glitch with fun. I know my tracks so far are not exactly like that maybe, but that's my goal. That's why I want this remix album to be even more a 'clash' between pop and experimentation. I am thinking of inviting (if I forget about shyness) my favourite new artists, from the pop AND the exp world to remake 'Kitchen'. My work then will be to pass the mic between both worlds, with a godd tracklist and a clever mix. Well we'll see what happen.

It feels so much better...

...wearing a pair of black socks I received at the opening of Masamichi Katayama at Colette tonight. Now, how crazy is that hum? I think they are designed by Groovisions (or maybe Wonderwall?), and of course super collector. I wasn't expecting much from Colette (except good item selection and crazy prices) but I sure wasn't expecting socks.
I would like to take this opportunity (sockstalk anyone?) to say how much I like socks, especially japanese socks, and in particular cute girls wearing socks. Well, that's another talk ;)
After the colette socks accident, we (because it's a 'we' since I was with Remi) went to another opening, this time Romanesques first exhibition where I met more unexpected people, and (semi-expected) Toog (yeah him again!) and we started talking about quiting music together, going to the gym to get some street cred in the hip hop business and spreading the "music=shite" message to the masses. I guess it was a bit crazy, but a lot of fun. I ended the evening with a premiere of a Masato Harada film at L'Etrange Festival (more on this festival soon, including a report on Takashi Miike Dead Or Alive trilogy night last week end). Well it was a fine day, at least no music at all :)

I've already received very surprising tracks for the Kitchen remix CD, so much better produced than the originals !
This is going to be great - and far more interesting that the original CD. I have a dreamlist of people I would love to hear play with the samples, like Momus, Hypo or Kid 606, but as usual I'm too shy to ask them to do something.
We've been joking with Toog about his album being my last ever music work, and how "music=shite", but maybe this is not a joke.

Another bad feeling today is my inability to record new music. It's pointless I guess.
