New York
Simple, quick post: I’ll be in New York City from December 1st to December 4th: what should I do, where should I go, who should I meet? answers by mail or in the comments.
My priorities:
1/ Art (the new museum is opening, tons of galleries to check)
2/ People (of course)
and maybe
3/ Shopping (I’m broke but…)
Good food too…
Got ideas?
Thanks!

best pizza used to be joe’s pizza in the village, but i think the standing only shop moved or went out of business. that’s for the margerita style. if you want something more complicated TWO BOOTHS is a great destination. they have several shops and many toppings pizzas with funny names. i recommend the heavy on the cheese ones– any cheese.
whitney museum probably has a nice show. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/16/arts/design/16wein.html?ex=1195880400&en=a9a39caebea5afa4&ei=5070&emc=eta1
of course dive into chlesea galleries.
too bad TAB/NYAB is not there yet to guide you.

challenge:
head out to the REAL china town (in flushing queens) and find a place to eat where there is no english on the menu.
use your kanji skills to make bad guesses about what the menu items might be (always dangerous, but always fun) and without telling anyone you are in from tokyo (wouldn’t want to get you in trouble with the locals), order and eat.

You should meet Lord Whimsy at a nice cafe or bar. He is a great person to spend time with, especially in NYC.

food:
$1 dumplings in non-real chinatown (http://www.chowhound.com/topics/431597)
vegetarian dim sum in non-real chinatown
i like non-real chinatown. flushing chinatown is interesting, though, too, and i recommend it, too, as a place of comparison. there are places in non-real chinatown where nothing is in english, though. also, there is a congee place on grand st. (i think) that has $2 rice dishes that are pretty fulfilling.
also, go to west harlem just to see it. there are some good places to eat there sometimes, too (but look it up first?).
also, momofuku: http://www.momofuku.com
