life and music of Digiki in Tokyo

The 101TOKYO megapost

Finally, here is the post you’ve all been waiting for: the 101TOKYO roundup!

First, some reviews of the fair, from PingMag (Focus on art) and BusinessWeek (focus on, wait for it, business - “moderate success”? hey we did sell around 1 Million USD of works for the first year, not bad in my book). Additionally, check ART iT editor Tetsuya Ozaki’s impressions of the fair.

Nick Currie, aka Momus, wrote a piece for Frieze magazine. Nick is one of the first persons I talked to when I started working on 101TOKYO, and his advice and suggestions have been valuable. Merci Nick!

If you are in Tokyo and interested in the inside story of 101TOKYO, and how a small group of people made this project happen in only a few months I would recommend going to Tokyo Art Beat TABTalk on Monday 4/28 at Gotanda Sonic. Agatha, Hiromi and Julia will give an account of the creation of 101, and I will be near too if you have questions, suggestions, or just want to meet us.

UPDATE: the talk is actually postponed, with a new date to be announced. I have no idea why the producer of the fair canceled the talk, but watch this space for a future announcement.

Details of 101TOKYO 2009 will be announced soon, in the meantime I’ll leave you with some photographic evidence of the first year of 101TOKYO. Check out our flickr photostream for a lot more.
