A world of his own: Arthur Russell

This month’s episode of Polypunk focuses on the work of Arthur Russell.
Cover photography by Nick Currie.

It is hard to summarize Russell’s work in one hour, as his output ranges from disco tracks to Dylan-esque folk and instrumental pieces. Wild combination, the documentary directed by Matt Wolf makes a good introduction, as does the World of Arthur Russell compilation. The 1986 album World of echo is highly recommended. Russell passed away in 1992 and left us with a highly emotional work that will continue to inspire. Relevant, moving, powerful: great art indeed.
